Reflecting on Earth Month at RoseVilla

Earth Month at RoseVilla: Celebrating Sustainability

RoseVilla Senior Living’s commitment to sustainability shines throughout April as the community celebrates Earth Month. RoseVilla is nationally recognized as a leader in sustainability, known for Resident-led environmental stewardship, zero-energy design, and community-wide sustainability practices.

What is Earth Month?

Earth Month, celebrated throughout April, focuses on raising environmental awareness, promoting sustainability, and acting against climate change. Originating from the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, it has grown into a month-long, global effort to minimize carbon footprints, clean up local communities, and support conservation efforts.

Earth Month and Earth Day is celebrated in more than 190 countries worldwide, with over 1 billion people participating. Coordinated by EARTHDAY.ORG, the event serves as a major Global Day of Action for environmental protection, involving over 150,000 partners and focusing on initiatives like climate change and green energy.

For years, RoseVilla has celebrated Earth Month as part of our broader commitment to sustainability and resiliency. Each April provides an opportunity to showcase ongoing environmental initiatives, introduce new activities, and engage with our greater community in meaningful conversations about caring for our planet.

RoseVilla Shines During Earth Month

During the month of April, RoseVilla hosted more than 14 Earth Month-focused events that celebrated an ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. These events included community gatherings that highlighted sustainable practices, educational opportunities designed to engage both Residents and Team Members, and field trips highlighting local impact. With every event, project, program, and Resident-driven idea, RoseVilla strengthens its commitment to sustainability.

Earth Month Beyond RoseVilla’s 25 Acres

One of our favorite Earth Month events this year was a Resident field trip to the Clackamas River Water Providers facility.

Did you know the Clackamas River provides drinking water to more than 400,000 people in our region? This was just one of the many fascinating things Residents learned during the visit. The tour offered an opportunity to better understand where our drinking water comes from and the extensive work required to keep it safe, clean, and accessible every day.

The CRWP team provided an insightful and engaging experience that gave Residents a deeper appreciation for the systems and infrastructure that support our daily lives. Connecting with local partners and learning more about the essential resources our communities rely on is an important part of how RoseVilla celebrates Earth Month and encourages environmental awareness year-round.

Earth Month & Arbor Day

The Earth Month celebrations also included an Arbor Day demonstration led by RoseVilla’s dedicated Grounds Team. RoseVilla’s 25 acre landscape is one of the many things that make our community so special. Thanks to the care and expertise of our grounds team, RoseVilla maintains these acres with environmental responsibility.

Residents and Team Members attending the Arbor Day demonstration learned the important “do’s and don’ts” of tree planting, including proper watering techniques, soil preparation, and root care. Following the demonstration, the Grounds Team prepared the site, watered the soil, and installed a watering system designed to support healthy growth over time.

Thanks to their efforts, RoseVilla’s new Douglas Fir is now planted and positioned for a long, healthy life on campus. Every tree planted at RoseVilla becomes a lasting symbol of an ongoing commitment to sustainability.
