Sustainability shapes every aspect of community life at RoseVilla Senior Living in Portland, Oregon. From transportation and maintenance to neighborhood designs and daily operations, RoseVilla consistently works to reduce environmental impact and strengthen long-term resilience. This commitment extends to the community’s transition to an electric transportation fleet.
Sustainability in Motion
Most senior living communities rely on transport vans and maintenance vehicles to provide care and service to Residents. The RoseVilla Leadership Team recognized this as an opportunity to align these essential operations with its sustainability goals. With this in mind, RoseVilla acquired five electric vehicles powered by clean energy.
“The addition of electric vehicles to our transportation fleet allows us to reduce emissions and, over time, operating costs, while maintaining the high level of service our Residents expect,” said Glen Lewis, CEO of RoseVilla. “It is a practical step that reflects our commitment to sustainability and resilience.”
The fleet includes:
- Two Ford Mustang Mach-Es, selected for their energy efficiency and comfort.
• Two Ford T-350 Transit Vans that provide spacious Resident transportation.
• One Ford F-150 Lightning used by the grounds and maintenance crew that operates without fuel consumption, fumes, or engine noise.
Each vehicle was chosen to support operational needs while furthering RoseVilla’s broader goals of reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.
The Power of Going Electric
The addition of EVs reflects a commitment to a more sustainable and resilient future for RoseVilla and its Residents. Electric vehicles produce zero emissions and can contribute to improved air quality on campus. Because EVs operate with very little sound, noise pollution is also reduced across the campus.
Electric vehicles also offer operational advantages. Many EVs have fewer mechanical parts, leading to lower maintenance requirements, reduced operating costs, and fewer resources used over the life of each vehicle.
On-Site Charging Stations to Support a Sustainable Future
RoseVilla has paired its electric fleet with the infrastructure needed to support energy-efficient operations. In 2025, an additional 12 on-site charging stations were installed for EVs. This infrastructure investment supports RoseVilla’s broader sustainability initiatives, which also include water conservation and the use of renewable energy.
Reducing Emissions and Strengthening Resilience
RoseVilla’s sustainability efforts contribute directly to climate resilience. Transitioning away from fossil fuels with electric vehicles will help reduce RoseVilla’s carbon footprint and dependence on nonrenewable resources.
Lowering its carbon footprint has long been a goal for RoseVilla. This includes RoseVilla’s thoughtfully designed neighborhoods that support sustainable living.
Neighborhoods Built for Sustainability and Comfort
In addition to the EV fleet, RoseVilla is advancing sustainability through their zero-energy neighborhoods. The Oaks and Trillium Townhomes are independent living neighborhoods built to Passive House Standards. The Oaks features 12 Zero-Energy homes, while Trillium Townhomes adds six more.
The Oaks features energy-efficient appliances, triple-pane windows, super-tight building envelopes, and solar. The Trillium Townhomes feature an eco-friendly design with an urban loft feel.
“Our zero-energy neighborhoods are designed not just for efficiency, but to enhance the quality of life for our Residents,” Lewis said. “Improved air quality, less noise, they demonstrate that sustainability, comfort, and design can go hand in hand.”
Each neighborhood is designed to support both sustainability and resiliency while reducing RoseVilla’s carbon footprint.
