SSAFE chapters educate and partner with senior living communities, committees, and administrations to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through:

  • Advancing clean energy (energy-efficient and electrified buildings and vehicles);
  • Promoting sustainable food systems, reducing and recycling waste, and protecting biodiversity (native plants and wildlife); and
  • Advocating for local, state, and federal programs that repair, protect, and conserve the ecosystems without which life on earth cannot flourish.

RoseVilla Senior Living: A Leader in Sustainability and Resiliency

RoseVilla is a nonprofit, single-site Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) and recognized leader in resilient and sustainable senior living.

RoseVilla’s Resiliency Action Plan: Building a Safe and Sustainable Future

RoseVilla’s Resiliency Action Plan is a 25-year roadmap for stability, safety, and sustainability. The plan outlines goals such as reducing energy use by half, securing extended backup water supplies, and strengthening seismic and fire safety.

ROSE Port: Renewable Energy and Emergency Preparedness

One of the plan’s first milestones is the completion of a ROSE Port, a net-zero-energy carport built in partnership with Green Hammer. The ROSE Port is designed as an emergency hub for RoseVilla, generating its own solar power and potable water. Additional ROSE Ports and other initiatives are creating a network of resilience across campus and helping make sure there are reliable resources during times of crisis.

ROSE Refresh Party: Resilience and Preparedness

Another example of RoseVilla’s resilience and preparedness is the annual ROSE (Resilient Operations + Sustainable Energy) Refresh Party. Organized by the Resident-led Ready Force, the event helps Residents refresh supplies, update emergency contacts, test backup power, and review water and sanitation plans. It also provides an opportunity for neighbors to connect and share their preparedness knowledge.

Bottomline

These initiatives show how RoseVilla is redefining what senior living can look like by bringing resiliency, sustainability, and the community together through eco-friendly living.
